About the Space

The old stone house was built when the island of Nisyros was under Italian occupation in the 19th century.
It has wonderful views to nearby islands and glimpses of Turkey.
The house is set on 3 000 sqm of private gardens and a fifteen minute walk down to the village of Mandraki. The walk is longer coming back as it is uphill.
It has a full bathroom, huge outdoor kitchen and small but refreshing pool.
The house is completely off grid. Solar power and solar hot water.

The space
The main building is two rooms. The building is built entirely in Nisyrian stone. It has high ceilings and small, traditional windows with views to the sea.
Attached to the building is a reclaimed cave that was called a Krifti by the locals. It was used to store wine, olive oil and raki. It is now a small bedroom with a small double bed.
The walls are lined in stone with antique carpets completely covering a concrete floor.
The main room has an elevated 2 metre by 2 metre bed. Under this bed there is another platform with two king single mattresses that can be used as two single beds, a king bed or as a lounge space.
The smaller room is the bathroom. It has a solar hot shower, an old marble sink and modern toilet.
The building is designed to take advantage of the Nisyrian summer.
Directly outside the main building is a large outdoor kitchen with four burner gas stove, a huge marble sink, built in marble chopping board, small refrigerator and wrap around seating. The view from the kitchen to the sea is spectacular.
Also directly outside the front door of the main building is the lounge area which has a very large modern lounge suite with incredible views over the small pool to the sea.
To access the house, you must park your car on the road above. You then walk down a path of about 40 metres to the house.

To ensure you have solar power, you must put the solar powered battery outside connected to the solar panel. It is recommended you leave it there for five hours each day while you explore the island, to ensure adequate power for the rest of the day.

I hope you love the house

Hi. I am a New Zealand national who has lived a lot of my life in Australia and Greece. I suppose I think of Greece as home. I love this life, its rhythms and its people. Its history and its constant battles to survive and thrive. Struggle leads to the resilience that makes Greece’s people the strong and passionate people that they are. I hope you love my island and my houses.

During your stay

I will pick you up from your ferry and take you to the house. I can help you with car hire and any other needs you have.
