Argos – Agia Eirini – Pyria/lfh-gpx]
Ancient-Sauna-Pyria

This route i can not really call it “path” because the most of it is possible to drive it with a jeep, starts from the Stavros (Holy Cross) monastery, on the southern caldera rim in direction south to Agia Irini. This was the site of one of the fortresses of the Knight Templars of Rhodes; however few, barely discernible remnants remain intact.

Essentially the real path starts approximately from the middle of the dirt track leading to Agia Irini. It ends at Pyria, a hot steam emission site; from ancient times it served as a breathing therapy site and a natural steam bath.

Very good outcrops of the Lower Pumice formation are observed en route: fall layers and pyroclastic pumice flows from the first devastating eruption on the island. The area is of interest to mineral collectors as it exhibits attractive skarn samples.

After visiting the Pyria a fast trip to see the lava formation in Agia Irini deserves the time too. From the same road it is possible also to begin the long way to Dracospilia through the dirty road which begin at the last turn before Agia Irini.

Walking back in direction volcano is possible decide to walk up to Nikia, the right junction is where ,at the last left turn before the main dirty road(stavros–>volcano) , you will see on your right a ruin of a farm, and exactly behind it you can see the begin of the path (Nikia-Kokkino Milos-Kailia)

This district it called Kallia, and some construction were probably part of the defense system of the island

The path is very easy to see, and on the path is possible to see part of an old settlement and different construction, in some point is possible to turn right and walk on pathways they will lead to Avlaki.
